Joys of a long car ride home

We visited my parents Tuesday for my Dad's birthday in Schulenburg, TX where they are building their new house. We were contemplating if we were going to go or not. We decided to after the hotel would not give us our money back. There are no quality hotels down there. The best is the Best Western where we always stay. We were trying to get out of it because Emily's asthma so they say has been really bad this week. The first night was fine because we got there kinda late and the kids couldn't really play outdoors. So Emily stayed inside with my Mom til we left to go to the hotel. Oh, the next day which was Wed. is a different story. She was able to go outside for a quick ride on the gator, but was told to come right back inside after that. Yeah, not so much. She was outside for a good part of the day. Grandparents always seem to go against the parental rules for some reason. Reason being they give them back to us. Her cough Wed. night was so awful and just loud and annoying. It takes her awhile to get calmed and under control. We left this morning around 11:30 and went to Whataburger for lunch. The kids didn't eat their food which isn't surprising. We were on the road for about oh 30 minutes and then I hear Ryan start to cough a little and I turned my head to look at him and there was a waterfall of white coming from his mouth. It kept coming and coming and coming. It was so GROSS! I yelled to Richard to pull OVER!! Oh the smell. Of course we have nothing to clean it up with but baby wipes. We had to yank him out and change him, then we had to yank out his car seat to dump all the puke out of it. We pulled off the cover and all the belts and what not. I called my parents who came to our rescue and brought trash bags, rags, lysol, windex and help. They were the puke patrol. So, by the time we were done cleaning and getting the kids rearranged, it was 1:28 when we left the side of the road in La Grange, TX. This is all going on while Emily is hacking up a lung and needs help blowing her nose every 5 minutes it seemed like. I hear Ryan again starting to cough, so we drive to Lexington and stop at the Shell station. I go in to use the restroom as well as to buy some supplies just in case he wasn't done barfing. I bought trash bags, paper towels and some sprite hoping it would settle his tummy. Thank the lord I did that! We had just go onto the Dallas North tollway when I hear him coughing and whining and sticking his fingers in his mouth. I knew it was coming. I yelled at Richard and sure enough, he puked again. This time Richard was able to catch it in a trash bag. God we were so ready to get home. The car smelled so bad even with spraying lysol. It usually takes us about 5 hours to get from here to there, but I drove like a bat out of hades and we got home in 3 1/2 hours from that stopping point in La Grange. So, that was our fun filled New Years. Hope everyone else's was better.

Christmas

Christmas was a lonely one this year. It was just the 4 of us. The kids had a great time though opening gifts. It didn't bother them any that family wasn't around this year. My parents came up, but left on Christmas Eve. Emily was thrilled that she finally got the Nintendo DS she had been begging us for. Ryan got a Lightning McQueen big wheel that he loves to ride around the house since it's too chilly to go outside. He also got a basketball hoop that he likes to play with in his room. I was shocked when I opened Rock Band from my parents as well as the stand mixer. Richard got an air compressor which was needed since my tires seem to always need air in them. He also got a digital photo frame for his desk at work. We had ordered a turkey from Rudy's so I didn't have to cook that day. I was so thankful Richard did that because we have been so tired due to the kids having their sicknesses and asthma. It's been a doozy around here.
